James had recently been laid off from WaMu after having been recruited from the Midwest and relocated and spending 5 years in Seattle improving sourcing management for WaMu. The layoff came as a shock and the client wasn’t prepared to look for new employment in a coherent manner. Since his resume did such a poor job of presenting him, he did not get an interview for 6 months before coming to GCM-L-A. After completing the GCM-L-A survey and then working closely with his career consultant to clarify his core skill sets, he received as resume that brought full attention to cost savings he had achieved at each of his employers. The result was that he was contacted by Amazon.com after posting his new resume, and following 2 interviews, was offered a 3-month contract position. He wasn’t ready to take himself off the market for that, especially after being contacted by a recruiter who found his new resume online and arranged for a phone screen. The client was Cushman Wakefield, who had just won the contract to service Bank of America. GCM conducted extensive research prior to the phone screen and for the subsequent 2 interviews. The offer came in at $3K above his WaMu salary and represented a fresh new direction and a chance to stay in what he considers his new home: Seattle.

Client was meaningfully employed with a direct lending group doing well, but he was bored and the money wasn’t good enough. He came to us to get a better sense of direction and being a “shoot from the hip” attorney with international criminal case experience, his personal style wasn’t as accommodating and “corporate” as it needed to be to best present his copious business abilities. After distributing his new GCM resume, People Management International made contact concerning a CEO position in Spokane. He was also contacted by Robt Half and Security Properties, but no suitable match was made. He was then contacted by Sound Pacific Capital and a lengthy interviewing process of over 2 months commenced. While initial interview training had previously been done, a series of meetings and phone calls with GCM to fine tune his presentation were conduced throughout the interview process. Through regular sessions with his career consultant, he was able to curb his “wild west cowboy” approach to being overly outspoken, hone his presentation, stay focused and work continually to uncover needs and build value. A long drawn-out process with exhaustive checking of references and past work history was shaped by the client with his professionalism, commitment and insight into the company and position. First offer was beyond expectation and accepted. Client: “I signed the deal … and I am happy as a clam. I hope our paths cross again”

James accepted a position at ITT Technical College as a Regional Sales, Call Center/Helpdesk Software Solutions representative. His salary is $50K+, (approx: 10% of $500K+ and growing sales), sets his own hours, works from home and is afforded three weeks vacatio. It is his first solid employment opportunity with future growth potential since telecom/helpdesk/call center meltdown. Company is one of the Top 5 worldwide in Call Center/Helpdesk solutions software industry.

I came to GCM because the strategic direction of the firm where I had been working had shifted and was no longer conducive to my special area of expertise. As a result, the expected professional advancement originally promised had not materialized. I consider myself an excellent attorney and advocate for other but Harmon Arroyo helped me develop the articulation of my own needs. Steve had lead a number of Public Relations and Community Relations projects for his current employer but his main responsibility was as a claims agent. As a client he was very creative and charismatic with a desire to put his degree in Public Communications to use (he more or less into his present position due to family responsbilities). His previous resume got him across very well, but as a claims adjuster. He wanted off that track so came to GCM for assistance and guidance. GCM helped him pull all his creative experiences together into a coherent resume oriented toward PR, Marketing & Communications Mgmt, plus encouraged him to build a formal creative portfolio. He was rebranded with new marketing materials and intensive interview prep so he wouldn’t present himself like a claims agent and thus work against the new resume. Being creative, he rose to the occasion, got interviews with Boeing (direct mail contact) and PRR (found him online). $69K and all the benefits met his goal requirements and he left the insurance claims world behind.

Ronald recently became a GCM client. He is impressed with the marketing documents that were written for him, but the preparation for meetings and interviews has proven to be the most valuable aspect of the service thus far. He is making progress quickly.

Brain came to GCM after leaving the military and finishing his BS degree. His biggest challenge was that he had no job history in the private sector and wasn’t sure how to make the transition. GCM helped with the identification and transfer of core skills that would have value in the private sector and how to sell himself in that manner.

Richard had started his own company, but decided to sell it to his partner and was wanting to get back in to software development when he came to GCM. GCM strategized his need to quickly ramp up his networking with former colleagues and to immerse himself in online software industry magazines and forums to help get him up to speed. GCM prepared an excellent set of marketing materials to showcase his experience while de-emphasizing most recent employment. Intense and thorough interview prep laid the groundwork and he was able to build value and establish common ground with a potential employer using the GCM process. He was given an offer that was $18K higher than what he originally had expected to command and he is extremely happy with the results.

Matthew took an interim positon as a corporate recruiter while he was working with GCM to continue his ongoing job search campaign. By adhering to the strategies introduced by GCM, he built his network and his value by clearly defining and marketing his HR skill set. A network contact introduced him to a decision maker within an organization he was interested. Using the GCM process he was able to “close the deal”.
